Another example of Renaissance painting with the Death and the Maiden theme. The theme itself is also an allegory of the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone. Persephone was abducted by Hades, the king of Hell, and forced to live with him in his underground kingdom. In this picture we have Death pulling the Maiden by her hair, while the Maiden is pleading to be let go.
